Running Wild
Today I had a fantastic time at the best zoo in the world, Taronga Zoo. Now, I love Taronga Zoo its one of my favorite places in the world. I love the aspect of working with animals and conservation.
The night before I had read a book called "Running Wild"by Michael Morpurgo. (Spoilers Ahead) In this book there is this boy whose father has died in war, his grandmother sends him and his mother off on a vacation in Indonesia. On Boxing Day Will, the boy, is riding an elephant for Christmas and his mother is swimming. The elephant, Oona, senses something is wrong and runs into the jungle with Will on her back. As they reach the top of the hill Will looks back out to sea and sees that there has been a tsunami and his mother has died. In the next year in the jungle Will meets a tiger who reminds him of a poem called, The Tyger, he feels connected with him. Later on Will meets a family of orangutans, suddenly hunters shoot many out of the tree and Will become unconscious and get separated from Oona. He wakes up with the dead tiger next to him and three baby orangutans clutching to him. He meets an evil man who basically is the biggest enemy of the jungle. Later on he escapes with the orangutans back into the jungle. They live together for a bit and Will is reunited with Oona. They follow another orangutan who the babies now take as there foster mother and she is following another orangutan that Will calls the Other One. The evil man from earlier has set the jungle on fire to make way for a palm plantation they escape but Will falls ill. The Other One leads them to a orangutan sanctuary were they nurse Will back to health. Will meets his grandparents again but as there about to leave he says he is gonna stay in the jungle that this is his gome now. His grandparents come down and help at the sanctuary and Will comes back to the sactuary everyone once and a while but he usually stays in the jungle. They decide to write a book about Will, now 15 and that is the book you have read. The End.
After reading this amazing book I spent most of my day around the Asian Elephant and Orangutan exhibits. Sadly this was the mist packed day at the zoo I have ever seen. My brother has been sick for a while from some tonsillitis and I am having the beginning of the sickness so I felt like the life was sucked out of me but other than that I had a great day.
